The connection between emotions and mental health

Our emotions play a crucial role in our mental health. Our feelings offer key insights about who we are and how we perceive our surroundings. Feelings swing from pure bliss and pumped-up vibes to deep sorrow and rage, each playing its own role.

By being alert to our emotional states and deciphering them, we equip ourselves to navigate these feelings more adeptly – a skill that can lead us toward making choices consistent with our life’s aims and moral compass. But when we try to push our feelings away or just pretend they’re not there, it’s like shaking up a soda bottle – the pressure only builds. This can trigger serious mental health problems like anxiety and depression.

Grasping our own feelings, and getting the hang of what they mean to us – it’s crucial. Why? It helps keep our minds healthy and robust. Embracing this understanding, we’re better equipped to confront hidden problems, boost our ability to articulate feelings clearly and constructively learn how to weather life’s ups and downs. By truly feeling our emotions, we’re not just getting in touch with ourselves but also laying the groundwork for strong emotional health.

Having a sense of purpose is MASSIVE and often overlooked when people are just not in a good place. We all need to feel needed somewhere in life or we end up filling ourselves with worry, doubt, fear, and just general negativity. You don’t have to go out of your way to find purpose in life either. Just find something you enjoy doing that helps someone else. Even animals! Kids are the easiest way to gain purpose but I know not everyone wants or can have children. Pets and caring for older folks can take that place.
